Dead Ringer Pale Ale

After attempting to clone Sierra Nevada Pale Ale several times and trying various recipes found here and there for it I was about to give up. Just never could get the grapefruity zing that I like so much.

More Beer had their Blonde Ale extract kits on sale in February, so I ordered 3 of them because the price was right. I had a couple of ounces of Chinook in the fridge and decided to use them along with the ounce of Willamette that came with the kit.

Just bottled it, and when I took a taste out of the hydrometer tube, POW!! there was the grapefruit zing that I had been looking for. This beer tasted so much like Sierra Nevada that I named it, Dead Ringer smile

I'm really hoping that it doesn't lose anything while conditioning. Even flat & warm it is wonderful. I'll post in a couple of weeks and let y'all know if it meets expectations.

Don't know how I managed to post in this forum, but will continue here to keep it simple.

Sorry for taking so long to follow up on this, but the beer took a while to mature. With a little tweaking of the hop schedule this will be a great SNPA clone.

Here's the recipe I used and the modifications I'll make in the next batch.

3 gal. Filtered water (Brita)
8 lb. Ultra light liquid extract. (Breiss)
.5 lb. crystal 15L (Steeped from room temp. to 170 in 30 minutes.)
1 oz. Chinook pellet 11% @ 60 min.
.5 oz. Chinook pellet 11% @ 15 min.
.5 oz. Chinook pellet 11% @ flame out.

Whirlfloc @ 15 min.
Cool and top off to 5 gal.
11 gr. Safale S-05 (rehydrated and pitched @ 76 F.)
Primary: 6 days @ 66 F.
Secondary: 20 days @ 66 F.
1 oz. Willamette pellet 4.6% dry hop.
Prime w/4 oz. Corn Sugar
Bottle condition 4 weeks.

Modified hop schedule to bring IBUs down to just under 40:

.5 oz. Chinook pellet 11% @ 60 min.
.5 oz. Chinook pellet @ 15 min.
.5 oz. Chinook pellet @ flame out
.5 oz. Chinook pellet 11% dry hop.
1 oz. Willamette pellet 4.6% dry hop.

May also try Cascades instead of Chinook for later additions, but the Chinook really did a great job here.
