Hop B'que

I recently saw on the food network a guy making his own bbq sauce.  Beer is a common ingredient, but he went a step further.  He used whole flower hops and malted barley, ground them up in a coffee grinder and mixed it right in the sauce.  Has anyone ever heard of something like this before?  Sounds interesting

I was at the Sebago brewing co in portland me a couple weeks ago, they put leaf in their spice rub for a chicken sandwich. I couldn't even taste it. Great menu idea, just think you would need to play w/ the amount for the affect.
