Annoying Miller Lite Commercial

Does anyone else cringe, get somewhat annoyed, when that new Miller Lite commercial comes on?  You know the one about their "triple hopped beer"?

It's made out of corn, and they think they can call that beer!?!?!?

I was waiting patiently for someone else to chime in on this one so I didn't feel as much the beer snob d-bag that I am. The worst part is if I didnt know about the brew process and watched this commercial years ago, I would be thinking "wow, that has got to be a more premium beer, they take the time to add a little at a time"

the other one that grinds my gears is when they say in another LITE commercial that the "superior pilsner flavor" comes from their tripple hop technique. HTF does pilsner flavor come from the hop?

I don't care about the fact that's it alot of corn...what gets me about that commercial is that 90% of people who actually drink Miller Lite, don't know what that means by triple hopping, or what adding at different times does....the other 10% don't care, they just drink it because it's cheap, and goes down easy........

They actually say that?!?!  I have not seen it....unbelieveable!  Pilsner hops...shit, I want some of those!

Wait, so you guys don't triple hop your American Light Lagers for that great pilsner taste?  I thought that's what gave the beer its drinkabilitywink

Nah man......the drinkability crap is bud light....with that jackass who draws stuff with his finger....

Ahhh see, triple hopped.
I am not a hop head, so I can no remove that beer from my must try list.
See how useful those commercials are.

Thanks for the warning Miller Lite.

I have yet to see that commercial.  I am a hophead, so I must be missing out on a great hoppy beer!

Not to hijack - but this advertising is no different than steel reserve 211.  A co-worker of mine bought the steel reserve, (he had tried a belgian trippel at the local micro, and all he remembered was the high alcohol) so he bought the steel reserve as it has 8.1%, and it was $7.99 for a 12 pack - cans no doubt! (yes I am being a b-snob) So he went to their website and it says "brewed for 28 days."

Now I know that 'brew' probably can be used as a general term to refer to any part of the brewing process, and I tried to explain this.  But I told him that would be one hell of a long boil, or mash!

Sure they can Triple Hop

They use C02  Hop extract in the Boil.

Then they use Isomerised liquid hop extract to touch up the IBUs lost in fermentation and to make beers of different levels of bitterness  .

Then they add some late aroma essence to trick the drinker into thinking they actuly use real hops in thier beer ,

OK, more venting, (pardon the pun- a whole nother topic there!), I saw the commercial again last night, and this time I picked up that they said the 3rd addition of hops is what gives this beer its excellent head retention! Do hop extracts give head retention?

Wow, I think we all need to settle down a bit, sheesh, I don't recall myself turning down a free bud, or bud lite before when I was in college.
Beer is beer however they want to advertise it it's fine by me.  As I remember one of my favorite beers is Schlitz, and nothing beats a bud light on a hot summer day at the stadium.
Of course we could all be super duper D-Bags as Thirsty said, and piss on any other beers that we ever try that aren't ours.
But yea basically all pilsner beer in america that is mass Produced tastes like sparkling water, and yea, it's cheap and easy like the women that drink it, but other than that it's great, ha ha .

We've had many discussions about the swill that is Budmillercoors. This however is different. This is a marketing ploy to be different- outright lying, to try to say something that no other beer company has said before- because it is false! And the sad part is 98% of viewers are too ignorant to pick up on it!

I enjoy an ice cold light lager after helping a freind carry a fridge up stairs, or mowing the lawn or something, and watch people drink it regularly (how I do not know) but to one up your competition but utter lies is just plain wrong in my book.

Jim Koch saying he uses over a # of hallertauer mittelfruh in every barrel brewed makes most people go- huh? Is that a lot? Those of us who know the expense of mittelfruh, and its low AA, say wow, thats a shitload of hops! but it makes sense. I think the Lite people were stretching here and getting their ass kicked in sales, and needed a campaign that grabbed people's attention. Shame on them.

Oh, and BTW Loren, I know you are super busy lately, but you have got to find a way to make it to MA brewday. I dont know what your intentions were going to be, but of course not only dos the invite go out to you and your family and friends, but it just would not be the same without you. However I swear I will chase you off my property if I see you walking up the driveway with miller lite to swap! haha no really I mean it.

Maybe it's the new Viagra Hops!

DC

Well this made me laugh because I thought I was the only one who saw this commercial and thought "really?"

That being said, let me point out a silver lining.  Macrobrews have seen that they need to advertise a factor of quality and craftsmanship.  All this is going to do is drive a few curious minds to check out what this all means.  Bud has actually taken steps to diversify and work on different styles of beer (their new American ale is actually a decent beer to expand the tastes of someone who is only used to drinking bud light).  Also, most of these macrobrews have also acquired microbrews as well (bud owns Redhook).

I think this could work to help expand people's tastes by encouraging them to focus a bit more on quality.

Then again, it could just be a lie. smile

I agree that the tripple hopping thing is very gimmicky on their part.  Fact of the matter is, I used drink Miller Lite every time my friends and I went out because you can drink gallons of the stuff at a time.  Granted, that was when I was in college and I was drinking for the alcohol effects exclusively.  I do have to ask though, does anyone else get as chapped as I do when these beers that are thought by the majority of people to be all American are actually owned and operated by a foreign interest?  Don't get me wrong, I love Guiness and Pilsner Urquell and I'll gladly buy them even though they are not American made.  I just have a problem with the false assumptions the big American 3 are operating under.  I was terribly dissapointed though not surprised when I found out that InBev laid off 3,000 American workers after claiming they were not going to be cutting positions.  Needless to say, now when I want American beer I get Yuengling, Sam Adams, or Boulevard.

Well, that's just my $0.02

But the marketing worked, look at the buzz it created on this little old forum.  Look at the positives of Miller, they brought us those awesome commercials of the girls fighting over "less filling" "tastes great"

enjoy!
