Enjoying my first kegged beer
A few weeks ago I bought a cornie keg setup from Midwest. It came with everything, all I needed to do was fill the CO2 cannister and add beer. I chose a Southern Brown session Ale from Austin Homebrew because it was listed as ready to drink in as little as 10 days. I took a little longer (about 3 weeks) to add a secondary fermentation to help clarity. I also bought a mini fridge that will hold 2 kegs plus the CO2 cannister.
Last night I enjoyed 2 glasses of beer and think this is probably the best brew I've made. The armillo hops are tasty but not overpowering and the 3.7% alcohol allows me to enjoy a couple glasses but still stay awake. It's only been 1 week since I kegged it, I'm now curious what it will taste like after 2.
And if anyone cares, with very little modification, the Frigidaire FRC445 4.4CF mini fridge sold by Lowes for $180 will hold 2 cornies and a 5lb CO2 cannister. The "little modification" is remove 4 screws (2 to remove the vegetable crisper door and 2 to allow you to move the temperature control). Inside, remove the crisper door, all the shelves, including those in the door, and push the temperature control unit backward a few inches and tilt it so it's vertical instead of horizontal. The CO2 cannister fits on the compressor hump. I do not believe it is possible to add a tower to the top of the fridge. Some of the cooling coils are in the roof. I had intended to add faucets to the door so this did not bother me.
Also over the weekend I brewed 2 more batches of beer to keep the fridge full ![]()

Congrats on the keg setup and good foresight for brewing those two extra batches. My beer used to be "off limits" when it was conditioning in bottles in the closet, but now that I have a kegerator with two beers on tap at all times, my roommate, roommate's significant other, roommate's friends, visitors, and anyone else who can walk to the kitchen has been enjoying my homebrew at their leisure whether I am around or not.
I may need to put a tip jar on top of the fridge because I can barely keep up (financially and time-wise) with the demand for free beer on tap!

Kegging is really nice, so good work on the move.
Eventually, you'll stop fooling with the secondary as a seperate step. Ferment, keg, wait, then dispense a couple pints of cloudy stuff and its smooth clear sailing after that. No need for an independant secondary step. And the cold keg of beer is better than any room temp secondary you will ever get.
