Favorite Holiday Beers
Hey guys, what are your favorite holiday beers? Or maybe by the time you've read this, what holiday beers did you drink on Christmas eve and Christmas?
This year we were drinking a lot of Sierra Nevada. That came down as the beer of choice, and one of my favorites besides.
The Celebration is a fine beer.
Stopped and picked up some Snow Day and 1554 from NB. Got some Bitch Creek and Sweet Grass from Grand Teton. A few bottles of Ovila Saison. Drinking my Insolent Bastard (Arrogant clone attempt) in addition to some High West Rendezvous Rye whiskey.
So...yeah it's been a saucy weekend.
Oh yeah, throwing in a little Jubleale as well!
I don't know if I would really call them Christmas beers, but I picked up a couple beers from Schell's. This year's Snowstorm is a Wee Heavy, nice and malty with a smooth alcohol finish. I had never had a Wee Heavy before, so I don't know how true to style it is, but I liked it. The other one was Schmaltz's Alt. It was really good too.
My sister had a Spiced Ale from Trader Joe's, it came corked in Belgian style bottles. I was going to try some, but alas, I fell asleep in the recliner after dinner with a glass of my Porter. When I woke up the Ale was gone, and my Porter was too. Santa must have been thirsty.
Alt Biers are among my favorites. I prefer them to amber ales or traditional pale ales. They have just a bit more hop bitterness but not close to as hoppy as a harvest or an IPA. Long Trail Ale is an american alt bier and it's one of my all time favorites.
