Lacing
I have had beers in the past that have good head retention but don't lace the glass. Does anyone know what causes the lacing?
Good lacing will get there with clean glasses and a head that is not quick to dissipate. while the head sits there, it leaves the imprint behind, when you take the sip, a little bit remains adhered. This is my Belgian blond after a good pour:
The key is super clean glassware. Which generally means no soap and no dishwasher detergent.
I'd suggest soaking your next couple glasses in super hot water, then let the glasses cool and air dry. That should rinse out much of the soap residue left behind by dishwasher detergents.
If that doesn't do it, soak the glasses in hot PBW, then rinse thoroughly with hot water again, cool, dry etc etc.
