Mayflower Porter on Cask

Hey to all you boston MA locals.  I was at Redbones in Davis Sq. last friday.  They have Mayflower Porter on Cask right now (could be done by now though).

Man that beer was born to be on cask.  Smooth velvet sweetness, with pronounced chocolate overtones.  There was a hint of nutty aroma and flavor midway through and the Porter finished with just a proper hint of ashey roasted malt at the end.  Man it was fantastic.

I've had the Mayflower Porter in the bottle and on draft previously and it was good.  But the cask really opens that beer up.

If you were thinking of getting some 'Q' at redbones anytime soon, I'd call ahead and see if its still there.  If so get your ass over there and try it.  One of the top 5 beers for me. Holy crap it was good.

The Mayflower Porter is one of my favorite porters.  Sometimes the Union Brewhouse in Weymouth gets Mayflower on cask but I've yet to make it there for the porter.

Speaking of Mayflower, I'll be brewing there next Wednesday.   I'm hoping its either a Porter or IPA brew day.

lucky SOB tongue

How did this opportunity come about?  I don't remember.

Sometime in December my girlfriend and I hit up their tasting room on a Friday evening.  After talking to one of the brewers he asked me if I had ever been there before and invited me into the brewery.  I ended up getting probably one of the most in depth tours and we ended up hanging out in the brewery for an hour or so.

After I wore myself out running around the brewery and climbing up and around everything like an 8 year old at Disney World I asked him if they've ever had any volunteers.  He said no one's ever asked and I told him I'd be the first.

I went to a private tasting at Harpoon the other night and was chatting up one of the brewers.  I tried to get my foot in the door there too but he said they don't allow anything like that.  He said I'd have to work there if I wanted to get close to the boil kettle but I'd have to stack cases of beer first.  I told him I don't want to get paid for it and I just want to brew a crap ton of beer.  Oh well..

Turns out we'll be brewing the Golden Ale.  I really can't complain though because I'm going to get to brew 600 gallons of beer! big_smile
