i think i'm in love!
as i understand this is a long running staple of many of this forum's readers but seeing leinenkugel's sunset wheat in the cooler of a convenience store in podunk maine was a rare find i couldn't pass up. the decision was based entirely on the reviews of those in this brewing community. believe the hype! this could rival the local allagash on my most loved wheats list. props!
I'm a fan of wheats for sure, and I think that's a pretty good wheat. I like them a bit dryer myself, Its a very sweat beer. Leinies Creamy Dark blows the Sunset off the map though. Of course you're that makes you the perfect partner to split a Sampler case with...
My two latest favorites are Negra Modelo and Delirium Tremens. DT is everything that Leffe Blonde tried to do but failed. I still have 8 blondes in my fridge that I can't bring myself to drink after having one DT at the local Bottle shop.
posting that I have 8 blondes in my fridge will prolly get me on some kind of NSA watch list or something ![]()
none of them rival leinies original!! hopefully some day the lager they have been making for 150 some years will make it your way... also there are some bars in the milwaukee area that has their new big eddy IPA which is only on tap... VERY GOOD... they're trying their way into the microbrew/ale area... all the power to them!
That's why I brewed to clone beers......Sunset Wheat and Allagash White......now I hope they are close.........![]()
i've been noticing more and more lately that the craft brew explosion is finally noticable here in maine. we're usually the last place to get most anything the rest of the nation has realized as a trend for a while. while i've enjoyed the local beer for a while and we've got some great ones, i've also been enjoying the more recent variety offered. i enjoyed my leinies last night very much and i'm starting to think the midwest is where it's at as the only other beer i've had lately worth raving about was spanish peaks black dog from montana. and this variety is also helpful in training my palete so i can also learn to brew better beer myself.
Yes, I tried the sunset wheat last night - ony because of the reviews here. I love it. I see a leenies clone in my future. Yes, it is kind of sweet, I almost think of it as a dessert beer!
A change of what has been happening here on the boards... I live in WI and have been drinking leinies forever, but now I see all the alagash fans trying SW and loving it... I happened to find alagash white in a store I don't normally go into and had never seen it before and had to try it. It really good, but a little pricey for a 4 pack.
i think i jumped the gun a little. while leinies is still worthy of all the praise, i've just tried my first hoegaarden, and realized that before that i didn't know jack about beer.
hmmmm.... who dont like a good Hoe!
I love a good clean Hoe!
