What's your most recent "great beer" find?
So I'm at the bar this past weekend talking to the bartender whose a manager at a nearby liquor store. I told him that I've started looking for Nugget Nectar again after hearing there's been a few recent finds here in MA but have come up empty handed.
He tells me he might have a case or two in the back of his store and to stop in this week. I expected to pick up a three or four bombers but he had a case of 12oz bottles which was a better deal and even hooked me up with a discount!
I put them in the fridge today so I haven't tried one yet. I'm sure it won't taste as it did when I first tried one a few months ago but I'm still pretty psyched about my find.
So what's your most recent "great beer" find?
Widmer Drifter pale ale, had it after a 10K race sponsored by Widmer.Seems to out if stock at every store I go to buy it. Also rediscovered how good Widmer Hef is ( the beer that made me a craft beer drinker.
Aventinus Weizen Dopplebock. $4.99 a bottle and worth every sip.
That and I like grabbing a single of Samiclaus for 5 bucks it is worth a bottle, $19 a 4 pack I always pass.
I recently picked up a bottle of Harpoon's Catamount Maple Wheat. It's part of their 100 Barrel Series. Good stuff.
I also scored a bottle of Orval not that long ago. I love that stuff.
Rochefort 8 and 10...in Utah, that's right in Utah!
founders devil dancer - Triple IPA. so good. MMMMMMM
Just had a Duchesse de Bourgogne at a beer bar last night (Dirty Truth in Noho) What a great beer! On tap it was amazing. I am picking up a bottle and bringing that to the lake with me tonight to sip by the fire.
Also had Founder's breakfast stout, dfh's immort-ale and great divide's yeti on tap. Good night.
Afflingem Belgium blond.... smooth somewhat fruity but perfect for summer sipping . Those Monks know how to brew it!
Went to an event this weekend called Firkin Fest and had a great time. This was a small event that had around 8 beers all on cask including Stone Ruination, Troegs Hopback, Victory Hop Devil, Bell's Two Hearted, and their amber ale. Towards the end of the event they announced they'd be selling growlers of what was left for $12. I ended up scoring a growler of cask conditioned Bell's Hopslam for $12! I plan on cracking that open next weekend when my brother's in town from Anchorage. It tasted FANTASTIC at the festival! Also, had a pint of Hoppin' Frog's BORIS stout on tap for the first time. Let's just say it was a great day for beer.
I found BORIS on tap earlier this year and loved it. I also found it in the store a couple months later but was afraid it wouldn't live up to its draft counterpart.
I haven't had anything that's blown me away lately but my girlfriend bought me a bottle of Peche Mortel from Brassier Diue Du Ciel. I haven't tried it yet but I've read and heard nothing but good things about it.
Oh and that Nugget Nectar is still pretty damn good. I have about 10-12 left and am going to hide a couple in the back of my beer/soda/water fridge so they'll be like bonus prizes later this summer after I forget about them.

I just killed the last of a case of Nugget Nectar last night, definately a damn good beer. It's one of my personal favs.
just enjoyed a Rogue Yellow Snow IPA, nice of them to put ingredients and beer stats on the bottle
I posted this in the "Your Favorite Beer" post in this forum. Maybe I should've posted it here so if I can post my reply here as well here goes:
My favorite beer?? Well, right now it's Schneider-Brooklyn Hopfen Weisse and I still am drinking s-l-o-w-l-y through 2 cases of it. Well, bought 3 cases, drank the first one fast. Too fast. So good tasting weiss bier. So HOPPY for a weiss bier!! Wunderbar!!
If anyone out there has tried it and love it, does anyone have a clone or tried to make this fine brew??
Ooooops, forgot to mention. Also, Sierra Nevada Kellerweis is a great American example of a Bavarian Hefeweizen. Brewed here. Another fine example of SN Brewing standards. Available year round.
Nuff said.

Yeah, got a new one.
On Thanksgiving Day.
Brad, my daughter's boyfriend and fellow brewer, who works part time at Boulevard Brewing here in KC, brought over a couple six packs of their new test Amber Ale.
It was excellent. Reminded me of my Buckhorn Ale series that I brew for deer Hunt Camp.
Anyway, I sent Boulevard a nice email, via their website, praising their efforts, and asked about the hop schedule.
Got the following reply-
Bruce,
Thank you for your kind words about our amber ale test beer. We made 2 batches. I
believe the one you are drinking is "amber 2".
Hallertau Trad. (08) 4.0 15 after
Hallertau Perle (08) 2.0 15 after
Saphir (08) 6.0 Knockout
Saphir (08) 2.0 Whirlpool
Total 14
That is how many pounds of hops we used in a 30 bbl batch. The Tradition and Perle go
in at 15 minutes after the start of boil.
Thanks for drinking our beer,
Craig Pijanowski
Lead Brewer
Boulevard Brewing Co.
So, can anyone translate "Knockout" and "Whirlpool" into homebrewing terms and/or applications??

Knockout: Flameout or "0 minutes"
Whirlpool: after flameout and while the wort is cooling
