bottles with widgets
getting ready to do my first batch and i'm just getting bottles gathered.my lhbs didn't have enough so i've got some from buddies.some i've collected are from guinness with the rocket widget in them is it possible to use these? houston48
I use them, I just get the widget close to the mouth, then use a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the widget out.
those damn widgets. Makes my blood boil.
I wouldn't bottle with the widget in there - if you have seen the widget there is a pin hole in the bottom of it. I just thought it would be a good place for dirt to hide, so I didn't want to keep them in my bottles.

I just really, really don't like plastic soaking into my beer. It really rubs me the wrong way to think that a sizeable piece of plastic is just floating around in the beer since it got bottled.
But, this is just my opinion. Others will probably disagree, and that's ok.
I make a loop of weed-whacker string and stick it into the guinness bottle. Tip the bottle upside down and pull on the string....the widget comes with the string nine out of ten times.

A homemade widget trap, sounds awesome!
I would agree that you should probably take the widget out then use the bottles.
