Bottling from a keg

To be honest, I don't know anything about home-brewing beer. And while I would like to do it one of these days, I have much more to learn about the process. Until then, however, I have a question specifically about bottling. My boyfriend's favorite beer is fairly hard to find in Oregon and the company does not bottle their brews. hmm They only sell kegs and I would like to surprise him with his own on-hand stock of his fave. Does anyone know if it would work to just bottle it on my own from the keg? Any pointers you can give me (about the bottling process and everything)? I really don't know the first thing about this and although I love beer more than any other girl I know, I still have much to learn! Please give me help/advice/etc., I'm determined to work out a way for my man to have his beer. big_smile Thanks, all!

What beer is it? If  the brewery is local you could go and talk to them and get your friends to show interest as well and then maybe they will start bottling it. They probably don't bottle because they feel they won't sell enough in the bottles to turn a profit.

I have seen equipment for bottling from a keg, but from what I have seen it is more geared toward homebrew set ups (ball lock). But I am sure that you could adapt it to a sanke keg (normal kegs). A good place to look is morebeer.com they have just about averything a brewer needs. I believe that there is also a product out there called the "Beergun" that is used to fill bottles from already carbonated keg. I am not too sure how long the beer would be good for after you bottled it, as I have no personal experience with doing this.

Also if you can find a local homebrew supply store, I am sure that they would be more than willing to help you out in that reguard. Maybe you should try to get him interested in homebrewing, then you could have hobby that you both could enjoy. Look on sites like brew-monkey.com for lists of stores by state.

But good luck and can I say that your boyfiend is lucky to have you, you should look into giving lessons to wives and girlfiends around the world on how to treat their man when it comes to beer.
