Bottling vs. Kegging

Pros are

Botteling
portable can't take a keg to the beach.
shareable can't give a friend a keg well you could if you were my friend
contests

Kegging
easier to clean 1 keg than 54 bottles
really conveinent to puor a glass
people will envy you

Cons

Botteling
harder to clean 54 bottles ...
glass breaks

Kegging
a nearly empty keg takes up the same space as a full keg
refilling co2 is a pain
cleaning lines are a pain

I actuall do both, some beers I keg some I bottle.  There is no perfect solution.

Due to the pros and cons everyone has listed, I've been doing this process:

Start racking into my keg, after about 1 gallon, attach the bottle filler and fill up 6-12 bottles (depending on if it may be a competition brew or not), then finish racking into the keg.  I use the carbonation tabs from Munton about 3-4 per bottle.

I get the advantage of kegging and bottling, without the draback of spending time bottling an entire batch.  I can also save certain beers for friends to try/bring to homebrew meeting, etc.

You can take a keg to the beach!  Get a 2.5 gallon one, with a CO2 cartridge and a faucet adapter or cobra picnic tap.  It will fit in a full size cooler for sure!

Kegging offers more beer faster... if you have the time... But Going to the keg and getting it carbonated first has been the best for me.... no need for priming suger.... just go right from your secondery to the keg and put it on CO2 @ about 20psi for gas absorbtion and then bring the psi back down to about and 8 to 10 psi depending on your temp.... and don't forget to release some of the pressure before dispensing once you drop it down... Good Luck...TheJet
