Kegging - What Do I Need?
Guys,
May sound stupid, but I was wondering if anyone out there has knows of kegging homebrew in a 1/4 keg (pony keg) or larger. Heard this requires special equipment, cleaning, etc.
Does anyone have any knowledge on this. Looking to forego the corny keg route and go right to 1/4 kegs if at all possible.
Thanks
Same question here. I have a full keg (1/2 barrel) that has a micromatic threaded valve and I was wondering if anyone has any experience using a large keg like this for a 5 gal batch. I have no experience with kegs and I basically wanted to know if it was worth using a full keg for smaller batchs or if the equipment I need or the CO2 tanks I need would be worth the money or if I should go with a smaller keg. I have a large fridge that I am going to use as a kegerator. Thanks for all your help!

For the homebrewer doing 5 gal batches, stick to the corny kegs. They'll fit in the fridge easier, they're fairly cheap (about $30-40 used on ebay or through homebrew stores), and easy to clean, fill and maintain. I don't know a lot about the kind of keg you have, but I do know they're a lot more aggravation to deal with. Plus you'll still need a pressure regulator, CO2 tank, lines, faucets, etc. regardless of what type of keg you use, and the keg itself is only a small part of your investment. Unless you're planning on brewing very large batches, the larger keg offers no advantage and lots of disadvantages.
