Rust on my bottling brush
I am about to bottle my first brew. The bottle brush I am going to use has developed some rust where the bristle attatch at the end after using it to do some earlier sanitizing. My question is: will this rust somehow contaminate my bottles? I believe my chlorine solution sped up the rusting process and fear it will continue to do this as I "sanitize" my bottles or at least think I am sanitizing.
Ideas?
When in doubt... throw it out.
It's easier to replace the brush than it is to get over a batch gone bad by means of contamination.
Are these bottles new? You mentioned it was your first batch.
You may not need to scrub the insides of the bottles if they're new. Just a good wash and rinse with a sanitizer (Starsan) should do the trick.
It might be a good idea to get a jet bottle washer if you don't have one yet. This device really comes in handy.

Both my bottle and carboy brushes have some rust on them. I still use both. They aren't rust buckets, but they do the job just fine. I always sanitize afterwards.
As BeerNutt said, if you are concerned about it, throw it away.
Thanks.
They are new bottles so I will probably only soak them in sanitizer.
The sanitizer I use claims to be a "No Rinse Cleanser". It is the LD Carlson brand.
Do I still need to rinse?
If your cleanser is "no rinse" then, no, you dont have to rinse!
I dont use a bottle brush.... don't even own one. I have only bottled three times now and they have all been in recycled bottles. I just rinse with hot water and sanitzer. No problems.... so far
