San Pelegrino bottles

A fellow at work is splitting a batch of hard cider with me and he wants me to put it in his San Pelegrino bottles. I know that this is sparkling mineral water, but the CO2 level seems a lot lower than pop or beer.

Does anyone know if these bottles can handle it? I'll be priming them as I would beer.

Cheers!!

Hello joshua,

What's the bottom look like? Normally if they are built for pressure they have 5 knuckles on the bottom, while the ones not built for pressure have like a ring or something. I've bottled in the ring bottles before and they can take the pressure but the bottom bulges out so you cannot stand them up.

I have never used them, so I can't and I won't say that they aren't suitable. However, they seem a little too flimsy to take the pressure. You would be better off re-using soft drink bottles. You can also buy new plastic caps for those at the LHBS. Not sure if you can replace the Gatorade caps with new ones.

Just remember that clear and green bottles don't stop UV light and skunking is a definite risk. Keep your beer in a dark place.

All the Best,
