What's on your label?

What information do you like to include on your labels if you use them and where do you get the template?  I've just skipped labeling in the past and thought that I've missed out on a good learning opportunity.  I'm thinking if I get some good suggestions and make up my mind I'll put together something functional in a PDF or some other universal format for printing to 8 1/2" x 11".

i spent a lot of time getting labels off of my bottles.  i'm not about to put more on there.

I was messing around this morning in "picture it" on my pc.

I'm sure this isn't what you are talking about. like Jamebow said though, I'm not going to put something on the bottles that I will later have to pick off.

Give your brew a number and keep notes on it, write the number on the bottle cap, so that way you'll know what it is.

I might put a sticker like this on the boxes I use to keep the brew out of sunlight, just for the fun of it.

I would think you would want the date. wwhat batch it is, like pale or brown ale, any special flavors.
But that you would keep in the note book with the numbers.

Just pitching in my two cents when where I can.

I have a friend in graphic design so he made up a label for me.  I'll have to find a picture of it.  I only have one label and it's on a bottle that sits on the counter as more of a conversation piece.  Once I get to brewing 50 gallons at a time, I'll start to get some labels printed off big_smile

Great idea with the number on the bottles or boxes.  That's really what I was hoping to get.  I am most interested in the practical information that will help me become a better brewer and more knowledgable beer drinker.  I have notes in a spreadsheet with each brew having its own tab.  I'll just add a number to each tab to relate it to the batch.  Thanks a bunch!

I emailed this question to my brewing almost dad inlaw, he uses the, "hello my name is" stickers that you might stick to your shirt at a class reunion or convention.

I thought that was a good idea, but you're still going to have to pick them off when you're done with them.

I read a post someplace else that mentioned just using regular printer paper and a glue stick to affix a label.  While it would be a problem in a cooler, it seems to work quite well when used in a refrigerator for cooling once bottle conditioning is complete.

Once used, they are very easy to remove - just dip them in water and the glue stick glue comes right off.

That was my thinking.  I would use something like a regular glue instead of something like a sticker.  I still may put something together to have the information on it to peak interest in my non-brewing gift recipients this holiday season.

That's a good idea JD.
The little round white stickers that are about thumb size, wouldn'd be a bad idea to put on the caps,
write the info you want on them before you peel them off their backing to stickmen.
That way your writing on something flat and not trying to write on that tiny little cap.

Instead of having to pick them off you just pitch cap and all.

I do not use labels any more either. Simply because it takes to much time to get them off the bottle and in my opipion a waste of money.  I am going to put them on my brew for my news years eve party So the kids dont drink the beer lol
