Where to buy beer bottles?

I was thumbing through the old posts since I am new here and thought I might toss in my thoughts.

What worked well for my was hitting up the local recycling center and asking the guy at the desk if he minds me grabbing a few bottles since I am starting to homebrew. He said sure and now I have 100+ bottles free f charge. Getting the labels off was kind of a war story, but cleaned, 'dishwashered' and sanatied bottles for free are always a good thing (if your wife doesn't mind the mess for a few days that is!)

I do the same thing as Jet. I go to my local beer supplier and buy some returned bottles from them. I pay a nickle a bottle. I went last week and payed $5 for 3 cases of 16oz bottles(Genny Light) and a 1 case of swing tops. The nice thing about the Genny bottles is that they come in a heavy case for storage. I also get the cardboard 6 pack holders from them to give beer away to freinds.

Take a look at this site:    www.beerathome.com

Also, you could buy Grolsch beer and use the flip top bottles which look SO COOL! For me, It is cheaper to buy the beer and use the bottles than just buying the flip top bottles (IF you like those kinds of bottles). the bottles run like two dollars each, but a four pack of Grolsch is eight dollars...a no brainer!  If ya don't like the beer, pour it in your garden or lawn. Beer is just so darn useful!

I MOSTLY use the amber 12 ounce bottles with the Oxygen absorbing caps. I don't know how well those caps  work, but I THINK they help.

Good luck,

www.Williamsbrewing.com sells a wide assortment of bottles, give em a try!

Here is what i use, because there aren't a lot of websites to use to get bottles really cheap. Go this site " http://www.jbconline.co.uk/index.php " .  As you all should know, the more you buy, the cheaper it is. Also, this is the only site i found that you can buy a large amount for cheap without going wholesale 50,000 bottles plus from china or what not. On the site, if you buy 24 bottles its still not gonna be a great deal about 18 bucks or so, or about 80 cents a bottle. BUT........ If you buy 1,000 it becomes a lot cheaper, about 175 bucks or 1 bottle is about 17 cents or so. So, it isn't too expensive and it becomes more affordable. Good luck brewing!!!

Thanks guys. I used to use old bottles, but I gave them away when I moved to the condo.

Also I had a jet washer on the laundry sink tap in the house, but that would be messy in the condo kitchen for washing bottles.

I think someone talked about washing bottles in the dishwasher. Does that work well?

I live in a pretty small house with a normal size sink and I use a jet style bottle/carboy washer and it works great.  From what ive heard and read there is too much to think about w/ the dishwasher.  Id rather not worry so much.  Also a good place to buy new bottles and caps is Monsterbrew.com.  They come by the case for about $14.  Its a sturdy case too with handles built into the side.

The guys at my local home brew place - who I'm trusting implicitly because I know squat - tell me the dishwasher is alright assuming you don't add detergent and you have the heat dry setting on.

You guys think differently!?!

One other tip about the dishwasher - make sure you take out any "Jet-Dry" or similar stuff.

I have been brewing a couple months. I use the dish washer to sanitize my bottles. Haven't had an issue yet, I just run it with no soap. When I need bottles I just go get a case of beer (anything with pop top bottles).  I wish I could find somewhere to get 32 oz. bottles. I can only find the twist off kind. If anyone has an idea let me know.

32oz will be tough, but 22oz are fairly common.  Most are re-cappable.  You can buy real nice beers, enjoy them & save the bottles, and/or check & post on craigslist.  Every once & a while someone switches to kegging & blows out their bottles.
On the dishwasher- that's what I always did, no soap.  If you have a hot cycle, use it.

I've seen 32 oz swing tops for sale, not regular pry top though.

Liquidation sale,  brown glass beer bottles (of unique design)from former brewery. Ideal for mini brewery/home brew/collector's items.

25,000 CASES 12 oz bottles, standard size for capping, boxed, and on plastic-wrapped pallets
Willing to parcel out.
Price negotiable, depending on quantities ordered.
