DIY cider press
This weekend I pressed 2 bushels of apples into a little over 6 gallons with a newly built cider press. I thought I would show it off. The basic construction is a bunch of 2x4's with lag bolts. The collecting basin has a hole burned into. Cutting boards cut in half make up the separations. The jack is from my car. I used no-see-um netting to make bags to hold the pureed apples. I would say it worked very well. Total cost is less than 50 with most of that being the three cutting boards.
Even my wife who is not a cider fan thought the cider was the best she has tasted. I think I'm going to use my English Cider Yeast (I also have sweet mead, but I'll save that for next)

Nice job. What did you use to puree the apples?
I used a food processor. Every apple got shredded then pureed. It took more time to puree than to press.
I pitched it this morning, so in a short 2-3 weeks I will get to taste it again.
