Fermentation times the same?
Hey all, newbie brewer here. I am currently working on my second batch of beer at this time. My first batch turned out excellent. I'm interested in making a batch of hard cider for the fall. Just wondering what all it involves...
1.) Is standard beer brewing equipment for extract home brewing sufficient to make hard cider?
2.) Is the fermentation time the same?
3) What kind of alcohol content can one expect out of hard cider?
4.) Is hard cider reasonably safe to drink/unlikely to make you sick?
All in all, is the process the same (Ex. Making worth/pitching yeast/fermenting/bottling)?
-Thanks
Hector
Your standard beer equipment will do, but over time if you have a plastic fermented it will absorb a hop smell.
If you ferment just the unsweetened cider you will get 4-5%alc. You can always add sugar to get your OG up for more alc. But I like to ferment just the cider.
Make sure it does not contain sorbates. Sorbates are like birthcontrol for yeast.
Thanks
Hudson
