hydrometer reading

I took a reading with the hdrometer in my new batch before pitching the yeast it did not read on the scale (below ) the temp of the must was at 60 and the hydrometer is I guess calibrated to 70 how to figure the correction. and how do you read the thing (triple scale)  tp line is 1.000 and then it drop to 10 20 down to 80
I am guessing here but the 80 is actually 1.080? can anyone advise.

 

The triple scale hydrometer is just that, a triple scale.  It measure Starting Gravity, Sugar Content, and Potential Alcohol.  You should be looking at the side with Starting Gravity.  Depending on what you're brewing, your SG should be around 1.050.  Also, most hydros are calibrated to 60, not 70 degrees.
