OVER CARBONATED KEG
Hi all,
I am new to this. I believe I have over carbonated my keg. I gassed it
(twice) @ 250kpa for 48hours (misunderstood my instructions). I have shaken
the keg around a bit and vented excess on a number of occasions and still
end up with lot's and lots of froth. Please help - I am getting mighty
thirsty!!
Thanks
Logan
250kpa is 36 PSI which is way too much pressure, I think. I am
assuming you are attempting to force carbonate it. If you set the
pressure this high and shook it around quite a bit, I am not surprised
you have too much carbonation. I am assuming the keg is approximately
4C; correct me if I’m wrong. I recommend you vent it completely, set
the pressure to about 35kpa, wait about 1 week and try again. In the
mean time, buy some beer to drink so you don't go nuts waiting for it.
If you try to force carbonate in 48 hours again, try 200kpa instead.
Thanks
Lane
You will have to vent the keg 2-3 times a day until good level is reached. Depending on the rate absorbed it might take a week or 2. Also if it is cold it will hold on to more CO2. Doesn’t vent too much at one time or you'll have a nice beer geyser?
Thanks
Kody
Shake and vent. I've done the same before--your beer is far from ruined, but you might want to buy some beer for the meantime. You can also let it warm up a bit (take it out of the fridge), and vent it, since you will release more dissolved CO2 at room temperature.
Don't apply any more CO2 to it until you've drawn off a pint that is carbonated correctly. After you vent, wait about 5 minutes, and check the flow rate.
