What does sulfur taste like?

Hey Guys!

Well I just racked my first cider after 2 weeks to the secondary, started with 4 gallons unfiltered unapt. Apple juice and 3 quarts of black cherry juice and starting gravity of 1.051 tasted it from hydrometer tube and had a taste that I can pin down. Is this normal? I used white labs English cider yeast. I read it leaves a sulfur taste but will go away after 2-3 weeks this may sound dumb but what does sulfur taste like. The gravity at end of primary was 1.002 and still far from clear.
Thanks
kristopher

Hey kristopher,

When you drink beer the some of the chemicals go up your nose from your mouth. The nose then senses the flavors. We say we "taste" cloves or bananas, but we really smell them. So if your beer has sulfur "taste" it should "taste" like the sulfur springs. There are sulfur compounds that smell differently. I assumed you where talking about the sulfur springs smell.

Cheers!
