What have i made with my apples?

i've tried to brew cider for the first time using an old monks recipe. i started it in november and wentto look at it today and it smells like nail varnish remover and has a thick filmy scum all over the top. is it gonna be drinkable? the smell makes me feel sick!

Good Luck, I try to follow a simple rule when trying something like that, if it doesn't smell good, what are the chances of it tasting good?  You know that some monk orders do some pretty wierd things, drinking foul stuff may or may not be one of them.

Can't say I've ever smelled a fermentation that smelled good. Some may smell like the hops you used but generally they all smell like ass. Don't worry too much based on the smell of your fermentor. I don't know what recipe you are following and what your fermentation outline is but if you started in November chances are you should've already moved to a secondary if not even bottled it.
