2nd Ferment Wine Glass Tank
Hey Everyone,
Only a few days until my equipment arrives and i can start my very first Brew!!
Just a quick question or two to anyone who can help. Would it be ok to use a large glass wine tank with bung and airlock as my second fermentation vessel?
(brewing question)
And can anyone describe not in terms of days but of how their brew looks/acts when they decide to move to the second tank?
i read that the airlock protects from infection so do you transfer after the head has gone from your brew or whilst it is still there and where there is still some activity?
Hi bryson,
If it's a 5 gallon carboy you're talking about, then that's great, they are used quite a bit, Americans especially seem to like glass vessels more than us.
As for the look of the brew, it is when the head has died down after vigorous fermentation. Usually after 2 to 4 days the brew will be ready to drop, there will still be enough activity from the yeast suspended in the wort.
