5 gallon plastic water jugs?
Are those considered food grade and suitable for using as a carboy?
This is an example of what I am referring to

Thanks
I dont see why you wouldn't be able to use that, however it has "hard to clean" written all over it. The only issue I know of using plastic is it may scratch easily and harbor bacteria

That and it only got 3 stars in the review! If it can't make people happy holding water, how is it going to make you feel harboring your precious brewday booty? For $10 more I would get some better bottles.

The only problem is that I live in Alaska so shipping adds another $15 on to that. This place sucks
I would guess those aren't food grade, unless I just missed it somewhere......it is questionable with a low rating, just for water.....it may suck, but I would make the investment on a few better bottles, and go ground on shipping. It may take longer, but it should save some cash......
I have one of those types of jugs. I have only ever used it to make up large batches of sanitizer or clenaser that I then dumped in something else. Some times I use it to transport water from tap to HLT. In general I don't think I'd ferment in it only because it does have alot of curves and dents in it that will be hard to clean.
The Better Bottle is the way to go!
The ones with the handles would be pretty hard to clean too. I use mine only to get water from the local store, 5 gal. at a time. I figure it was a good investment since I don't know my own water too well(25 cents a gallon at kroger). If you want to find cheap carboys, ask your LHBS, chances are they have used ones they will sell you for half off. Thats how I got the majority of mine.
