Beer Gun

got a blichman beer gun for christmas.  quite an ingenious piece of equipment, although you could probably make one for about 40 bucks.   I already had a 6 port co2 distributor kept an extra one for the beer gun.  It works great, fills the beer absolutely no foam at all dispensing at about 5 psi, I like putting the co2 in the bottle too, gives you that peace of mind.
The only thing I was upset about was the adapter piece that is sold in the accessories has the barbed co2 connection that you need to hook into the gun.  THE CO2 ADAPTER IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THE GUN.  This is just straight up bullshit,  basically they wanted 20 bucks for the accessory kit.  Instead, I went to Home depot, and bought a 3/8 barbed connector for $2.40.  They should just make the gun 100bucks, and include everything, what a dumb thing to do, your just going to piss people off.

Nice.  Got to have the toys!  smile

been thinking of getting one of these, or a counter pressure filler, like this one:

just wondering which would be the better choice.  How's the Beer gun working so far?

I would definately opt for the beer gun.  The simplicity of the one handed opperation just cant be beat.  easy disassembly makes it a plus to clean also.  if you already have a port for co2 just get the regular gun, and go to home depot for the barb.

what else do you need to get if you don't have a port for the co2? I guess I could always just disconnect the other keg while I'm using the beer gun though.

so how's the beer gun working?  I followed advise from a different forum and bought the counter pressure filler from Morebeer.  The other forum pretty much said the beer gun wasn't worth the money, and couldn't fill bottles that would keep their carbonation.  I don't know if the filler I got will fill bottles in a way that will hold carb, since it is by far the most difficult to use piece of equipment I have ever attempted to use.  All I get is foam in the bottles.  It's really bothering me since I have a comp to enter, and need a couple bottles to send.  Also I need to bottle my braggot, and messing with this thing for a full batch is going to kill me.

I've been using a beer gun for a few years now and it works great. I recommend carbonating a bit on the higher side of what your shooting for to allow for any loss headed to the bottle.
Anytime you try to bottle carbonated beer it will foam. If you try to match the temp of your bottles with the temp  of your beer this will lessen this but in actuality you want a bit of foam to help prevent o2 in the bottles. Cap on the foam and just dial the carbonation, bottle temp and line length until you get what your looking for.

finally figured out what I was doing wrong.  you have to hold the stopper in real good, then blast co2 in for several seconds.  I had just been doing it for 1 or 2.  then switch it to the beer side of the valve, and slowly turn the pressure relief valve in small increments.  this will allow it to fill with no foam.  then you have to cap right away.  and before filling the next bottle, hold it over a bucket and turn the valve to the co2 side to blow out any remaining beer, to prevent that from foaming your next bottle.

all in all, it's tricky to get the hang of.  once you've got it, not so bad.  still, I don't want to fill a whole batch by myself with it.  I'll be asking a friend to help with the braggot.  that one is also helped by the fact I bought 36 half liter ez cap bottles that will hold most of the batch.

+1 on the beer gun. Mine works great no problems at all.
