Best way to rinse and clean out kettle after drilling?
I drilled out a hole for a ball valve in my new kettle and used an all natural olive oil cooking spray for a lubricant. In the process some of the oil leaked into the kettle - and by some I mean a lot. What's the best way to clean out any oily residue so it won't affect my next beer? I first rinsed with water then used a little dish soap and rinsed thoroughly and wiped clean. Is there anything else I should do? I was thinking about soaking in Oxy Clean and then sanitizing with Star San but didn't know if that was going overboard.
BYO Magazine has an article about converting a keg and paer od it is how to clean the keg.
Soak it overnight in PBW or whatever it's called. I would use Dawn dishwashing liquid and clean it out good with that first. It's good at getitng grease and oils off. Then do the PBW soak and youre good to go.

Thanks DC. I just got my BYO in the mail today and haven't had a chance to flip through it yet.
If the oil is just contained near the base of the kettle, then just fill it with a couple gallons (2-3), add some PBW and bring it to a boil. That will take care of it. Then flip it over and hose it out real good.
Looks like I'll need to pick up some PBW at the LHBS tomorrow.

It is a good thing to have regardless. You may start to get some scorch staining on the bottom of the kettle and PBW is just about the only thing that will remove it. A good soak every few batches is agood thing.

Yeah I've been planning on picking some up eventually. I hear people using it to clean kegs and I just started kegging so I figured I'd need it sooner or later.
