Brewing Set up?

A friend of mine is trying to sell a three tiered all grain set up, having not brewed all grain before I don't really have much of an idea on what something like this should be worth.

The set up is three tiered, using gravity to do most of the transferring work. The set up is made out of  angle iron and is about 7ft at the highest point, and goes down to around 2ft.
There are three burners, one for each stage, each with the appropriate tubing ect. I'm not sure of the BTU output on the burners, but each burner is pretty good in size, the largest being around 8 inches in diameter.

With the set up he was going to include three fullsized kegs which have been cut open, and have had valves and thermometers added. He was also going to include one or two korny kegs, which he said he replaced the gaskets ect on.

The stand would need a little structural work, but for the most part looks good.
He was going to ask around $200 for the whole set up, this seems like a great deal to me, but is it worth it?

Thanks-
guynmt

I think 200 bucks is a decent price for 3 converted keggles alone, let alone ones with thermometers.  Toss in a stand with 3 burners, a couple cornies, and whatever odds and ends and it sounds like a good deal to me even if the stands might need a little work.

Jump all over that for 200 dollars? are you kidding me?  The burners alone would run you at least $150.00.
And you don't have to go looking all over for the converted kegs, just the work alone to convert them is worth that Price.  Jump on that shit gunpowder.

Buy.  Buy.  Buy.  Buy.  Buy.

or have him call me, and I'll give $300....it's worth a lot more!

You would be the one on the price is right that would really piss ricka off!

I always said I'd punch the guy who did that, even though I would turn around and do it myself..

Unfortunatly now, I no longer watch the show.  Simply...Drew Carey is an ass, and a tool.

Bob Barker should die on that stage, and then they can cancel the show..

Yeah andt that Diane Parkinson was a litte tramp too, my fav part of the show.

I bought the set up from the friend for the 200 bucks, and got even more then I thought originally!
With it I got the stand, which is about worthless, needs work and is not stable.
-3 burners- 2 of which are huge ~8inch burners
-3 converted kegs with spouts and thermometers, and a Bazooka strainers
-3 Korny kegs which I'm told are in working order-
-8 ish fermenting bucks-
-Giant stainless paddle/ore
-Crank grain grinder-
-Scale
-Hand capper
-Various glass flasks-
-Several Air locks-
-Cleaning Stuffs (San Star ect) Some acid stuff too, not sure what to do with it.
-8 pounds of various year old hops

Seems like it was a good deal!

Is there anything that I can do with year old hops that haven't been refrigerated? Seems like a big waste to throw 7 or so pounds of hops away.

Correction sir, that IS a good deal.  Congrats you made out very well there.

As for the hops.  You could save them for doing lambics or beers like that.  They use aged hops for their antimicrobial properties, not so much for bittering or the like.
If you aren't into brewing lambics (not sure I would be either per se) you could always offer them on different brewing boards for cheap money looking for anyone who brews lambic style beers and wants to experiment.

Otherwise they are probably useless to you for brewing.

Awesome!
Anyone here interested in Lambrics? big_smile

Ah, also got a sparger sprinkler thing that fits on top of the keg big_smile

Finally got the setup together, almost after a year of having a pile of scrap sitting around tongue

The square tubing, burners and three kegs (only two in the pic) are what I ended up keeping.

Brand new freezer I found for 100 bucks, about 16ft^3 big_smile

Wow cool set up man.  You can't see but I just drooled on the keyboard.  Gonna have to build one for myself one of these days.

you can sell the hops on craigslist.

(a week later) Wow guys I found a steal! 7 pounds of hops for only 50 cents an ounce. LOL.

DC

That is major league brew porn.  You didn't even mention the pumps.  This guy must really have hated him self to give all that up for a couple hundred bucks.
