Easter weekend "What did you all do"

I was Bored..... Had to be nowhere.... or do nothing but reduce some of my stock smile
So Decided I'd build a dual stirplate for my culturing.... Heard alot about them on how they'll produce a stronger yield..... So agathering I went....
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/ranman905/stirplate003.jpg
Tore apart a cple old systems for the drives and fans, Had the switches, reostates from past projects.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/ranman905/stirplate002.jpg
Thought i'd use an old cable converter box.
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/ranman905/stirplate006.jpg
The hard drive donations for the magnets.

http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/ranman905/stirplate010.jpg
But after some thought of having the magnetic field having to go through the metal box enclosure....
I went shopping @ the local electronics store smile
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee291/ranman905/stirplate012.jpg
Bought a nice plastic encosure, new fans "on sale" p/s "on sale"  got 2 @.99ea.

In action using a 1 1/4" screw......

Have ordered the proper flasks and stirbars of ebay...
If anyone interested here are the links....
Stirbars...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … %26otn%3D4
Flasks....
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … 3DWatching

Main problem was mounting the fans to the case....And this was one of the most posted threads i read....
For the easy way...."and you probably have lots too"    I used those simple plastic motherboard supports you get when you get a new system or board... 1/4" threaded, 1/4" spacer, and the end that pops throught the mb...
I just marked the holes in the cover for the fans, drilled 1 size SMALLER, screwed in the plastic spacers, snapped on the fans, and placed a small dab of hot glue to hold in place..... sweet and simple....

Total cost Including the ebay purchases for a custom dual stirplate............
$98...
Time to assemble........
4 hours

Far cry from the $75.00 - $130.00 they are asking for a single unit......Plus you still need the flasks and stir bars.......

Well dinner "bbq"/movie/relaxation time......
Tomorrow a busy day......  25 gal of beer to move smile 3 too keg.... 2 too secondary )

Nice project, looks great, and yes you will be glad you did it, nice culture build up.

I myself am doing much more boring stuff, like brewing 13 gallons of IPA tonight. Gotta work until 7 or 8 (big sale), heat the strike water and mash in by 9, I'll probly be up til 2 or 3. Glad tomorrow is Easter and have a day off.

get some yeast on that plate- it is much prettier than swirling tap water!

I took time out to brew up an Irish Red Rye to donate at a brewout in May.

Wow, Birdman, that is amazing!   Seriously, I am completely in awe over what you did ... if I'd have tried something like that I would have either ended up with some kid Lego looking project or electrocuted myself in the process.

I am completely impressed with (and horribly jealous of) your talent!

P.S. There is a fingerprint on your glass flask... good job on that too, those are hard to photograph!
