Fermenter Box
This is the fermenter box I built. Ferments 10 gals and controls to 1 degree regardless of ambient temp. Could be run as a fridge is I really wanted to. V-vessels rule!
Sweet - you built this on your own? Nicely done.
Yeah, I still have some finish work to do on the outside (trim, and hiding the wires) but it's functional. There's a Bock on the left and a Helles on the right.
Do you have plans for your box?
No plans, it was pretty much built on the fly. If you're interested in building one I'd be happy to point you inthe right direction.
I would certainly be interested. I would not mind doing a few more lagers for summer brewing.
That's awesome cmanley!
The key components are the temperature controller and the a/c unit. I have about 4" of insulation in the frame that helps it maintain temperature, but that would just be personal preference, and it saves on the electrical bill.
Basically what I did was put a stainless steel thermowell in the rubber stopper for the airlock, the ranco temp probe goes into that and monitors the actual wort temperature, rather than the temp of the box. If the temp rises the a/c comes on, if it drops the heater comes on. It runs maybe once every 4 hours in the garage. It's pretty cold in Colorado already so these in the picture are set to 51F and it almost never turns on. The tricky part is getting the a/c to run cold, that's another topic.
