Fermenting bins

Hi Guys,

Just got my first brew kit. I wanted to check that once you have mixed all the ingredients in the fermenting bin, do you just cover the top, or replace the lid fully ? If replace fully, won't any gasses produced cause the lid to pop off ? Also, I have a brewers heater that can be used to keep a constant temperature during fermentation - if I use this, the lid well not be able to close full. Does that matter ?

Regards!!

Hi,

Just cover the bin with the lid that came with it but don't snap it on or as you say it will pop off & probably slash the yeasty froth allover the place !.
I normally transfer my brew to a secondary fermenter after about 3 to 4 days once the froth has started to die down the secondary fermenter has a air lock (allows the gas to escape without allowing air back in) I find this gives a smoother beer.

Thanks!!

Hello rafael,

The best thing to do is drill a small hole in the lid and fit an airlock, they are dirt cheap and ensure nothing nasty gets into your brew, but they let the co2 escape by bubbling through the little bit of water in them.
