finally got my stand up freezer
Well, i finally got my stand up freezer. I've been looking for one of these forever, because of their 1 door construction, and all the room inside, I thought it would be perfect, I can fit 8 kegs in there. best of all, I got it for free. Thank god for craigs list. Now I just need to get all the hoses, and about 4 more kegs and i'll be good to go. Thinking of keeping at least 4 on tap at all times.
Sweet. I love CL. I get tons of stuff off of there.

Shit. Four on tap at all times? My setup can do that, but I rarely keep that far ahead. In fact, I have yet to have more than three beers available at one time. I even ran totally dry for two weeks end of July first part of August. Anyway. Congrats on a great find.
Nice score bro! I will have to come by and draw a sample from it, err...umm.... if I guess....uh...I ever got an invite...
....I'll make sure to bring a redsox bumper sticker to shmack on it. ![]()
are the shelves removable? I thought they had cooling lines attached to the shelves. not sure.

yes, yes they do. Much to my suprise the shelves in the upright have coils in them. I never even thought about coils in the shelves, as all of the stand up freezers that I saw, or heard about where just like big refrigerators.
I'm currently looking at how to get past this, and i've looked online, and a few people have had sucess turning them into kegerators. of course a few others have turned them into fermentation chambers after they broke the lines. Any pointers would be helpful. I am doing this, even if it means cutting them, and dilling it up again with refriderant. This was the set up I wanted, no top door, but I just never thought about coils. oh well you live you learn.
are the cooling lines bendy? if so you could let the freezer warm up and possibly bend the lines up so the shelves stand straight up in the back. If I remember correctly freezers like this have no other cooling coils other than the shelves so if you remove them than there will be nothing to chill the beer.

Well, it has 4 coils, one of them is on top. I might give up, and keep looking for one. I might give this to my mom.
ok, I got proof that this can be done, and I will be heading up to home depot to get wire cutters, and appliace paint, and hole saws. keep your fingers crossed.

as you can see, it's huge in there. if I do this correctly, I can keep 8 kegs in there. if I do this wrong, (and that is a possibility). I'll end up with a place that serves no purpose in october. Like Fenway park.

nicely done. gotta love it when things work out
Well, this isn't mine, this is a picture that I found on another site. Since I know it can be done, and my freezer is exactly the same, it should work out.
Wow, excellent. I've seen a couple stand up freezers cheap on craigslist and was hopingn this could get worked out. When you get it done can you post what you did and pics?

The word is the herb, and i'm big like Bob Marley.
I'm so f'kn Jacked up right now. Took about an hour to trim all the wire between the coils, and you do need to do that, as they are sodered onto the actual coils. this think is huge, and I can easily fit 4 kegs onto the first shelf. There is room on top, as there are more coils up there. All i'd have to do would be to cut some more wire, and it would give me enough room. or i can just fold back the middle shelf like the top one, and give me alot of room.
I'm thinking of just keeping it the way it is now, and leave the other shelf for lagering. Either way came out just the way I wanted, and this is doable. got this for free off of craigs list, got my Johnson thermostat ordered, so far i'm into this 80 bucks. can't wait fo fire this baby up.

Awesome. When you folded up the shelf was there a risk of breaking the cooling line or is it flexible enough not to worry? Looks great.
