Food grade buckets - Why won't you stop smelling!?
Okay... regarding the bucket licking... reminded me of somthing that happened at my house once.
I let my 5 year old "help" me cook and bottle (he gets to stir, add the hops, etc). This is an admittedly unorthodox mother/son activity which I have had to forbid him from discussing with his kindergarten teacher but I digress....
While it's boiling, we blast the radio and sing and slam dance, whatever. So, the kid has started associating the smell of brewing with fun and affection and playing. I had to go out of town for a class a month or so ago so the normal Friday brewing with the kid was canceled for a couple of weeks. Imagine my surprise when I noticed him walking around the house with the fermenter on his head. I asked him what (the hell) he thought he was doing with my bucket and he told me he was smelling the good times. Hell of a guilt trip there.
Anyhow. I found a very involved way to get the smell out of plastic (baking soda, vinegar, hot water and sunlight) but it's just not worth the time and effort. I'm only going to end up making it smell like beer again...

Or making smell like good times, depending on your perspective. Nice story.
Great story indeed! That wort cooking is a kickass smell... I wish my mom would have added some hops and malt to my childhood recipes!!
Lucky kid
Brewmaster in the making...
Thanks... I like bragging about my beer and my little guy.
I use galss carboys for all stages. just easier for me and not having to worry about scratches in plastic and having to replace. just my preference.
Deafcone
With me it's the other way around. I let my mom and uncle help out as I brew up some good times.
