Good prices??

I'm a big fan of using what you already have.  If you have a rectangular cooler, then you can build a mash tun easily for under $20 total.

Also, I wouldn't really say the Phil's bottom is the "best", as everybody's opinion will differ there.  Plastic tends to float a little when it's in there with just water, but as soon as you put the grain in it stays on the bottom.

I've got the yellow cooler and as far as I can tell, it's just a more rugged version of the orange cooler.

The only difference is that the yellow ones are not orange....They are blue.

Ahhh, ok...I see that now.  I'll take notes for future reference.

I just found a 40qt SS pot for 109$ is that a good deal? Also, does anyone have a website for a good cheap weldless valve?

I'm getting a 60qt SS for $104, so I guess yours isn't the best deal.. I'll check for the site address when I get to work...I can't remember where I saw it........

Did you ever get the 60 quart? Where did you find one?

I have not yet obtained the SS pot.  I'm going over a major equipment upgrade with my brew partner.  We're going to move to AG, and we need to build a Mashtun and system, and get a few smaller things as well.  And the SS pot...... Anyway, I'll post the link I have bookmarked on my work PC tomorrow.........

Thanks! I am heading for the AG side of things as well and would like to find a large ss pot. The best deal so far has been at Bass Pro Shop for a 32 qt. ( 79.99) . Every thing that I have read says go bigger than you originally plan and I figure that a ten gallon batch would need about a 60qt. Ten gallon coolers ( mash tun) can be bought at Walmart all day long and then the fittings from Home Depot and wallah...

Why not just get yourself a keg and convert it?  I recently bought a keg for $25.  If you throw in the cost of the cutting and drill bits that I didn't have the total cost is about $45.  It took me 30 minutes to Dremmel off the top and 5 minutes to drill the hole for the spigot.  Once I get my weldless ball valve (this weekend) it'll be done - and for half the cost of a SS pot.

Okay, so I can't find the original link, but it was at Cabelas.com, and I also noticed they sell them at Bass Pro Shops.  I am getting a 60qt, from Bass it will run me $109, and I can pick it up from the store near Patriots Place in Foxboro.  If I go with Cabelas, it costs $104, but also add $20 for shipping.  Gas wise, it's probably cheaper to just suck up the shipping, as opposed to driving for two hours roundtrip to get one.  And that's if they have it at that store.  We're getting an Ice Cube cooler, I think 50Qt, probably from Walmart.  As mentioned, the valves, hoses, and fittings are at any major hardware store......
