Good prices??

Why not just get yourself a keg and convert it?  I recently bought a keg for $25.  If you throw in the cost of the cutting and drill bits that I didn't have the total cost is about $45.  It took me 30 minutes to Dremmel off the top and 5 minutes to drill the hole for the spigot.  Once I get my weldless ball valve (this weekend) it'll be done - and for half the cost of a SS pot.

Where did you get the keg for $25?  I'll buy 4 at that price.

I check Craigslist every morning.  there are kegs for sale all the time.  the guy who sold me one for 25 said that if he came across any others he would just call me directly and sell them to me for 20 (he figured not having to deal with the internet was worth 5 bucks).

Is the keg made of stainless or aluminum?

all the kegs I've dealt with are stainless, never seen an aluminum one (they are brushed when new and look like aluminum)

It's a regular SS keg from New Belgium.  They're pretty easy to come by in cities with large universities (like U of A).....

I've got over 75 higher schools around me.....amazingly, the keg security is very high here....in fact some places now rerquire a huge deposit, sometimes over $200 for a keg, to make sure it gets returned.....

Was the pot at Cabela's and Bass Pro stainless? The largest stainless I could find at Bass Pro was a 32 quart. I did see a 60 qt aluminum one at Cabela's.
I guess 32 would be large enough but it would limit me to five gallon batches.

As far as I know, yes they were both SS.  I'm going with the 60 qt SS pot from Cabelas I think....I want to be able to do full 10 gallon batches, and that will help quite a bit.......I'm hoping to have it, and my mash tun equipment within a week or so.....

I just checked Cabelas and almost freaked out....I saw they only had the 32 SS pot for $74.99...I figured maybe my bookmark was to an old page for a product they stopped carrying; but after searching for a minute, i was able to find the right page......voila!  http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ … &Nty=1

60 qt SS for $104...that's what I'm getting......

the last time I took an empty keg in to the store to get a new keg, they told me they raised the deposit from $10 to $15 because people were recycling them for the aluminum and getting more than the $10 deposit. So I am pretty sure beer kegs are made out of aluminum.
