got another toy for christmas
Brewchez, You mentioned buying the freshest extract you can find. I went ot my closest home brew supply and checked the dates on someof their LME and they showed use by Oct 2007 on them. I also asked if they can get alexanders liquid malt and they said "we sell muntons. Their prices are high and selection pathetic. It's a hooby shop and beer brewing is a small part of it so they're not concerned with competing with online suppliers. I won't go there again unless I need one or two things and don't want ot wait for the stuff to get shipped. If they aren't going to give the beer supply a good effort they should just stop selling the stuff.
I already sent 40 bucks on the supplies for the red irish ale I brewed and found out afterwards I could have ordered it online and including shipping saved 12 bucks.
One more thing. Is there a place I can buy the tubing I need for transfering in bulk instead of buying it by the foot every time I need it? It's 35 cents a foot at the placed mentioned above. I replace the tubing every time unless I'm transfering more than one carboy the same day. Then I just rinse it out and resanitize it.
So it would seem buying the DME would insure getting a fresher extract unless you know what the date on the canned stuff is when you buy it.
DC
You don't need to toss your tubing every session.
I reuse tubing for about 6 months, then replace it based on how heavily I have used it during the past 6 months.
You can tubing online from the same places you get your online supplies.
