Kegerator - WHOOT!!
The highly anticipated (mostly by me) kegerator is finished, operational and pouring delicious homebrew!!!
I found the fridge on Craigslist for $400. Yep, I could have gotten a cheaper one but I 1) wanted a bottom freezer so that the taps were higher and 2) after our big party in June, it's going into my kitchen and I wanted what would look like a real appliance and not a junk yard find. So I forked out a couple hundies more than I had to.
Here is the CO2 manifold.
This is a metal plate a friend of mine made me. It allows the shanks to be supported by more than just the metal on the fridge.
I'm really happy that I can still use the top shelves. This will come in very handy for all sorts of things I'm sure!
I can fit in 5 kegs so I can have 4 on tap and one just chillin. Literally! And I can still utilize all the shelves on the door.
CO2 side not too exciting here.
Tap side - very exciting here!!!
Happy me!!!
Happy Me!!
Thanks everyone for checking out my newest toy!!! I'm sure me, my family and my friends will make good use of it.
Most importantly, thank you all for the advice you've given me. It turned out way better because of it!!!! ![]()
Now that is SWEET. Congrats. An investment you will not regret.
Ain't it great to have a choice of your own stuff. Whenever.
I really like the amount of room you have.
I've got a 4 kegger, but really tight.
You will want a tray under the taps, especially when you move it into the kitchen.
And, I'm jealous on that one. Mine is in the back utility room with the washer & dryer.
Instead of shelling out $50 - $100 for a stainless steel tray, you can make a simple holder out of thin plywood, paint it white and put a plastic tray in it.
If you are interested, I'll send you a pic.
Very Cool
wow, very cool, looks great, i'm sure everyone will get years of enjoyment out of it. I like the taps out of the side of the fridge too.
A word of advice, if your going to put it in your kitchen, get a pair of those forearm forklifts about 20 bucks, very cheap, and you and another person can lift the fridge quickly and easily. Also get some furniture mover pads, and put them on the corners of the kegerator, that way you can just slide the kegerator around, if you have to move it, and not tear up the floor.
Not that it matters now, but any reason why you didn't just put the taps through the door? Especially with the thing maybe making its way into the kitchen at some point.
Love the build though. Very clean finish.
First of all Brewchez, there is no maybe. It IS going into the kitchen
Actually, the way my house is laid out, it's actually going into a srange pantry area that is RIGHT off the kitchen. With the taps the way they are, you don't have to leave the kitchen to access them. In fact, it will be more work to get the pop out of it than the beer. I'll post photos when it's in it's rightful home in the house! I live in a very old farmhouse so you know how the floor plan of those can be goofy.
Also, I didn't want the hoses being fussed with every time the door is opened. While my finance and I are fine, the 22, 20 and 18 yr olds are another story! I plan on using the door and shelf space for pop and such. Then maybe we can use more of the real fridge for oh..say...food?
Brewski, I would love to see the pic of the tray. I have a friend who is a fabricator and he's trying to score some stainless for me but if he can't I need a cool plan B. Oh and Yes it is great to have a choice of what I want. The kids are cracking up at me because I'm getting my stuff now! No more dance classes, softball fees..etc. It's going to me me at the grandkids games with my growler. Although I hope they wait a while to have their own brats.
Bruguru, YES!! I'm definitely taking your advice on the forearm forklifts!!! That's a brilliant idea!
So now that I have the kegerator I can kiss that fitness plan good bye. Oh well. I can't say I really care much.
Here you go Jexie-
Got the tray at Wal-Mart or Dollar Store or something like that, about $1.
The tray holder is 1/4" plywood- front, bottom, & back, a piece of 3/4" board cut to size for the sides.
Paint it, screw it in place, drop in the tray. You might be able to spend $10 on the whole thing.
I made the recipe holder out of a piece of scrap plexiglass. You do need a table or jig saw to cut the thin strips.
Glue it together & screw in place. It is kinda neat to have the recipe right there.
From Left - Right
Blackcomb Brown - Winter Sunshine Melomel - Shaftbury Coastal Cream, and of course
,- Mac & Jack's AA
With those 18 - 22 yr olds around, ya might think of some kind of locking system
.
Congratulations Jexie! It looks damn good.
I like the recipe card idea.
Very nice!
I really like that recipe card idea too. I'll need to think of a way to incorporate that if I can. Thanks for the drip tray plan B. If my buddy can't score the SS for me, then I'll have a jump point when I have to put on my thinking cap and sip my thinking brew for something else.
My brats know they can sneak a nip here and there but If my beer goes faster than what is reasonable... O.M.G. Hell hath no fury like Mom!! (I was the only mom in PTO that never had to lock up the alcohol...my kids have met me!!)
Besides, I do have a locking system. It's called step out of line Mom puts new locks on the doors! hahahahahaha. They are good kids and they work hard I don't care if they have a sip or two. (after the dishes are done....)
I'm dying to try this Mac & Jacks!!! I need to see if I can order somehow.
Oh, and that fitness plan....distant memory.
Jexie , my hats off to you that is one fine keggerator.I love the fridge idea instead of the little ones.
Rich, thanks! My thought was that I wanted a nice one and I only wanted to build it once and not have to worry about upgrading later. Also, since it's going in the kitchen I didn't want something that looked like it needed to be in a garage.
I got the idea of the bottom freezer from some one at my LBS. I thought it was brilliant since it brings the taps up higher. I can't take credit for that.
Thanks again for your nice comment.
Well, as it turned out my buddy was able to score some stainless steel and he made me this fabulous drip tray.
Yea, it's SWEET!!! I have to give Andy all the credit, he got the ss and he fashioned the whole thing. I don't know anything about fabricating.
I then purchased some dry erase magetic sheeting and put it on top so we can write what's on tap!
It worked bad ass for the party. Which, by the way was a smashing success. We went through about 25 gals. of home brew, three pork butts, 30 lbs of wings and tons of hot dogs and pop corn! ![]()
I like having the kegerator in the garage for the summer so I've postponed the relocation of it to the kitchen until the fall. Michigan winters are horrible so no way will I truck out there in the winter. Plus I'm hosting my home brew club in July and the garage is just so much easier.
