Kegging set up

I'm thinking of making a kegerator when I get my tax refund.  What do you all think of this set up? http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_i … s_id=12397

That's a little pricey considering you still need to add $80 for a CO2 tank.

The same kit, including a new 5lb CO2 tank, runs $168.95 at Keg Connection.  Even with the shipping I bet it'd be less money than the AHS kit.

It is the EXACT same thing that I just pulled a pint out of in my spare bedroom.  works great....   I really like the Perlick faucets vs the regular ones very smooth pulling and easy to clean.  Oh and BTW i really appreciate you purchasing from austin homebrew I just got a part time job there working the the shipping/ warehouse dept.  really cool people who all really love beer.
Its a great choice that will serve you well ( pun intended)

does the one from keg connection have stainless shank and perlick faucet?  I figured that was where the extra cost was coming from.

ok, just looked around keg connection.   I'm now considering http://stores.kegconnection.com/Detail.bok?no=47  with the perlick faucet upgrade for $303.95.  Is that a reasonable price for a 2 tap system?

Anyone ever try using the water dispenser in a refridgerator for a beer tap? didn't know if you could just hook up the beer line to that or not?
Also, are the sidewalls of a fridge just insulation? thought about putting a faucet on side rather than door so usign door wouldn't be a problem.

Depending on the fridge, there might be cooling lines in the side.

That price is pretty good.  For comparison, a similar kit without Perlicks from Midwest runs 299.95.

The good thing about Keg Connection is that you can upgrade stuff you normally can't at other stores.  I got my 2 faucet tower from them and upgraded to Perlicks and I think they were the only place that offered the upgrade and didn't make you buy the tower with chome faucets and purchase two additional Perlick faucets.

I've seen plenty of refrigerators with tap lines running through the sides but I've heard of a test for checking the location of lines inside of a refrigerator or chest freezer.  If you mix a paste out of baking soda and water then spread it over the area you want to check, the paste will harden and show the location of the lines.  I'm looking for where I saw it initially and I'll post a link if I find it.

Found it. Here's the thread I was talking about.   The guy uses cornstarch and rubbing alcohol, not baking soda and water.  After 5 minutes any areas with underlying freon lines will turn white.

I used the side of my fridge for my set up.  I put a tiny hole in the side of my fridge first and poked around in there for something hard with a wire.  then drilled a bigger hole and poked some more until i had a hole big enough for my lines.
BTW sorry for my self serving post earlier.  I am just really excited to work with a bunch of nerdy beer people like myself.  and i really do like my system that i got down at Austin Homebrew.

Thanks again for your patience

Don't worry about it IronDavy.  I'd be pumped if I was working at AHS too.  I frequent a forum that Forrest is on quite often and he seems like a good guy with great customer service.  Last year AHS had a huge sale and Forrest was giving additional discounts on certain items and looking for suggestions.  He was hesitant but I convinced him to put the March 809HS on sale with the additional discount and he ended up selling a ton of them.  Someone who listens to his customers is someone worth doing business with.

Hogarthe...

What set up did you end up going with?   Did you end up getting the perlik faucets?   One thing that I have learned in my first few months of kegging is that the heavy beers should be bottled still and the light beers go on tap.  Having a 9% Scotish ale on tap is really dangerous for me, a lightweight.   Anyway..... I love having beer on tap in my house.   All you have to do is pull the handle and beer comes out AWESOME!!!!!    well I've had more than one glass of my house brew and now it's sleepy time.

Good night and good luck

I'm gonna get the one from keg connection, with the perlick faucets.  So far seems like the best deal.

At the keg connection site, it shows the upgrade for perlicks, but it doesnt have an option to select any of them.  Is it just my browser not working, or do I need to call them to get the upgrade?

I would call them to make sure.  I have delt with them before and they were pretty cool to deal with.
