Double mesh for under $3.00
I have a larger 10" and don't brew without it.
I bought one of those years ago. Real nice tool.
When I did extract brewing, I started steeping my grains in a small pot, then straining them through this strainer. That way I never had to use a grain bag again.
I have something like that strainer. I got it from my brother in culinary school. We have a good setup, he gets free beer and he hooks me up with some brew/cookware. I use mine when I pour my wort into my primary. I run my wort through the stainless mesh strainer before it runs through the funnel with the replaceable screen. It helps keep the funnel from clogging and the combination of the two works pretty good.
Good deal! I just ordered 4...never thought I'd get 4 stainless double mesh strainers for less than $20, that's including shipping. I'll probably give one to a friend who started brewing recently. I mentioned he could use one, so he bought one for $25..ouch, but he didn't care......
Is there something special about it being double mesh? I have a strainer I bought at KMart and it works OK, but it could probably be better.
Double mesh uses a course and fine layer, thus why it is "double mesh". Most that you find cheap have only the course layer. Therefore small particals pass through. Combined with your hop solids as you strain, a nice airation and filtering system is setup to make your beer better.
Using whole hops is preferable, if using pellet with this system watch the filter for clogging. If clogged empty the filter, then continue. Good luck
