new brewer..need help reading hydrometer

like i said i am new to the brewing scene and i have only made two batches although i cannot figure out my hydrometer what is the most effective way to get a good reading?

Here is an explanation from a wine site but it works the same for brewing....
http://www.grapestompers.com/articles/h … er_use.htm

and this is from John Palmer's book "How to Brew" which you should read if you haven't already.......
http://www.howtobrew.com/appendices/appendixA.html

What part of maine are you from?
(That has nothing to do with reading your hydrometer obviously)

Are you confused by the multiple scales on the hydrometer?
Or what part of the process is screwing you up.

I like to fill the sample tube with beer, let it sit to get the foam to subside.  Then I put the hydrometer in it and I spin it a bit with my fingers to shake bubbles off the thing to get a truer reading.
