New to Brewing
Hi. I am new to this whole brewing thing. I want to do it because I love beer and I want a new hobby. I know that down the road I might end up spending more money on better equipment, but was wondering what the best equipment to get started would be. Please fill me in. It would be great to have a brew by christmas.
A basic starter kit should get you going. Like this one, for example (no specific recommendation of a vendor, just the first thing that came to mind). I actually recommend your local homebrew shop over online for anything that they carry at the local shop.

I agree with ksbrainard... support your LHBS! That is, if you have one.
Just go in and ask them what you will need, they probably have starter kits, but you can always
buy the minimum and keep building as money allows.
I agree with supporting your local LHBS, but you should compare costs with on-line suppliers first. Be sure to factor in the shipping.
I've seen some amazing rip-offs in a local store.
E.G. - I was going to make some mead, looking for honey & yeast. The yeast was fine, Lavin D-47 for $1.35, but they had the same, identical, 5# jars of honey that Sam's Club carried. Gee, I wonder where they got it. Sam's - $ 9.52, LHBS - $19.95.
Check midwestsupplies.com for starter kits. Also check craigslist, very often you'll find kits that someone got tired of.
