Reputable store?
Anyone ever order from these guys before?
http://www.homebrewing.org/
They've got some screamin deals on kegging equipment, but I'm always hesitant when a deal looks too good.
Also I've noticed some stores are including 1/4 inch bev line with their systems and others are selling 3/16 inch. Other than affecting the length of tubing needed to achieve a good pour at a given pressure does it really matter which size you use?
Nevermind, midwest one uped em. Single system for $150. I'm sold
Just a tip on a kegging system.
Check around for where and how you will get your tank filled.
If you don't have a shop in your area that will fill your tank, then I advise not getting one with a prepackages system.
When I went to kegging the only place I could find to get CO2 conveniently was a tank swap only type of place.
So here I had this brand new tank that ultimately I had to give away to get into the swap program. I tried and tried but couldn't find a single place that would do a fill.
The price of your keg setup will be considerable cheaper if you don't purchase a tank. Just go to the gas place and pay into the swap program.
Another advantage of the swap program is that you'll never have to replace the tank. Each tank has a limited lifespan and eventually will need to be replaced for code and safety reasons. Granted the lifespan of the tank is years, but eventually you'll go to get it filled and they'll say NO. Then you're buying a second tank...or paying into the swap program.
To me the swap program just works fine.

Brewchez - check out this place:
Arco Welding
1200 Eastern Ave (Rt 60)
Malden, MA 02148
781-324-6190
5lb tank: $10.50 (as of 02/09/2009)
This joint refills your CO2 tank while you wait (about 3 minutes), instead of doing a tank swap.

That was the last place I went to get mine filled.

I purchased all of my kegging gear from www.homebrewing.org. They had a sale over the holidays and I got a brand spanking new 5# tank, keg with o-rings, dual gauge regulator, gas and beer mfl QDs, hoses and clamps (everything came assembled, too) for $125 with shipping. Their used kegs are something like $17. Good deal.
I have also purchased ingredients from them in the past and while they are not the cheapest or have the best selection, they are super friendly and helpful. They have called me once because I ordered a gas line with the wrong sized QD. They called to say "we noticed you ordered systems X in the past. The QD you just ordered online won;t fit that system and we just wanted you to know that". They sent me a new vial of yeast when I thought my yeast had died. The even followed up with a phone call and emails to see how my brew was doing and how it turned out.

Oh sure, now you tell me...only about 7 years later after I started kegging. ![]()
Malden is a little out of the way. I used to have a friend out that way to go visit, but not anymore.
I do tank swap in Billerica and I live in Chelmsford.
I get my tank swapped on Plank St. in Billerica, at AGA gas. I think that is pretty close to you.
Regardless, I don't care about how nice my tank looks, I am OK with the swapped tanks.
Thanks for the info though. I did see it recently on the Wort wiki page.
(Nice page, I'll say it again for 100th time... I need to drag my ass to a Worts meeting and become a member. Maybe after I say it enough times I'll finally do it!)
One good thing about montana is that we have more cows than people. Lots of cows = lots of ranches = lots of people with home welders. So finding a welding supply shop to fill er up shouldn't be to hard.
Thanks for the info brew rob. I'll keep an eye out for their sales.
