Temp controller?

Anyone have a reccomendation for a temp controller?......the kind a freezer plugs in to, then that into the wall.....

The most basic is the Johnson analog, can be had shopping around for about $59

Ranco makes a nice 2 stage controller that allows control for both cooling and with some jumper switching heating. This may prove well in the future for ferm chamber temp control if your system ever changes. Then there is the LOVE controller, I haven't seen or used one yet, however it will be what I am purchasing when I do my freezer conversion. For the money it is supposed to be the best digital controller with great accuracy and control. There is some wiring involved from what I have read.

I recently picked up this prewired RANCO unit from Honey Run Apiaries online store. Its plug and play, ready to go out of the box, no wiring.

So are you drilling a hole in fridge to put probe through or just put it in with door open and shutting door on probe wire?

The johnston controller probe wire is thin enough copper that I easily slips between the fridge and the gasket with the door closed.  No need for another drilled hole.

I have a Johnson controller and It works with the normal seal and door just fine. No need to drill. Wire is this enough to slide right under the seal. Works great!

I have http://www.northernbrewer.com/pics/full … roller.jpg I paid 80 for it and its nice but i wish i would have gotten the cheaper one i don't really use the digital portion where you can have it turn on and off at different + or - temps. IMO its a waste.

I won a Johnson controller on Ebay.  I bid the minimum, and no one else made a bid.  $40 for the controller, and $9 for the shipping.  The guy said it probably won't ship until Friday, which I think is kinda F'ed, seeing as the auction ended Sunday night....If I don't get some shipping info by nexy week, I'm going to cancel it with Ebay, and give him his first negative feedback.  I can't see any reason he can't just ship the thing today.

Maybe he has to make it...it's more than just a controller.  It's wired to a GFCI box, with a switch and a fairly long cord.....not happy, yet....

A lot of those high volume ebayers only ship once a week. They bring all their useless broken crap to the UPS store and wrap it up while laughing about the 400% profit they are making on the shpping.

Sounds like you got a great deal though!

you can get ranco digital controllers on ebay for like 45 bucks, you just need to wire in a 7 dollar extension cord.  super easy and much cheaper than buying one ready to go.

These should be in the country soon.... still in manufacturer mode for 110V

Came home tonight, in the mailbox was a box crammed like a postal worker would do...

My new controller is here.  It looks kind of cool, I'll have to figure out how to mount to the freezer.  I thought the probe would have been maybe plastic wire coated with a probe, but it's just a long piece of copper, with a thick end.  I guess that's the actual temp probe....I have the probe down by the bucket in the freezer.  It works, but I think it may be off a couple of degrees.  I'll check it in the morning, see how it reads...
