Temperature Controllers
I have a basic question about the digital thermostats. I am using a freezer as a fermenter. I have the temperature set properly on the Johnson Controls A419 Series thermostat. When it reaches the 2 degree offset, it does not turn the freezer on. Temp set at 69 degrees, offset is 2 degrees, and differential is 2 degrees. Help, I am thinking that the guy at the local shop may have wired it incorrectly. It does have an icon on the display that says cool. And the little green light always stays on. If anyone has this model, I am in dire need of help.

does the thermostat not turn the freezer on at all? I use digital temp controllers as well, but a different brand. The way mine work is that I set the differential to say 2 degrees and this allows for the fridge to be within 2 degrees of the set temp. if it goes above that 2 degree differential (ie. 3 degrees above my set temp) then the fridge turns on. If you want it to turn on when the temp reaches 2 degrees above your set temp, then I think you may need to set the differential to 1 degree.
I doubt the unit is wired incorrectly. These units have very simple wiring schematics and if something is wrong then the unit wont work at all.
I tried everything that you suggested. The thermostat "clicks" when it gets to the appropriate temp. Like it is trying to turn on the freezer. Basically, after some troubleshooting this afternoon, using a megger, power is going through the unit. I'm thinking that the freezer has some sort of built in device that prevents something like this from being used. I tried to contact the freezer manufacturer. Of course they were baffled. They suggested, blindly, to try to bypass the thermostat on the freezer. Is that possible?
Thanks for the suggestions. Anything helps.
