Upgrade!!
So I finally bit the bullet and just bought a new cookpot.....I really shouldn't have spent anything on it, but with a big brew session coming up a in couple of weeks I really wanted to have the proper equipment to do a real AG full boil. Now, I'll be able to with my new 60Qt Stainless Steel cookpot! I still have to get a cooler for mashing and the related parts like SS braiding, ball valve stuff, and hoses, but I'll get all that over the weekend....I can't wait to brew next time. We're going for a three, maybe four way brew session. I have a Wheat Ale recipe I made that I'm dying to try. We're also going to do an Amber kit my buddy bought. It's the same kit he bought before to start brewing, but we screwed it up, and made it more of an Amber IPA....There will also be a Mr. Beer brewing, as another friend got one for Christmas. He wants to try it before spending anything on real equipment; hopefully he'll get hooked too....
Anyone know how long it should take get a full boil going with 6-7 gallons on a turkey fryer burner? I think the BTUs are around 65K, but I'm not sure. I plan on heating it as I sparge to save time if I can......
Sounds like a fun session.
You should be able to get it up to boil in about 30-40 minutes.
maybe 20mins. Im not sure the BTUs on mine but when set to "jet engine" mode i have gotten it in 20ish minutes.
Sounds like one heck of a session. I bit the bullet also and got a 10 gallon igloo cooler with a false bottom this past week. Hope to get a keg to boil in the next few weeks as well. AG and ten gallon batches coming up soon.
