valve on my boil pot
I'm banging out a hole in my boil pot, and putting a 1/2 inch valve on it. I'm going to use a bazooka tube for the filter, my question is how far from the bottom should I put the hole, and should I use a stainless steel scrubbie on the end of the tube?
As close to the bottom as you can get it, adn still have room for a washer and nut assembly (assuming you are using a weldess kit).
Good to know...I would have asked this myself in a few weeks.. I'm also planning on using on a Bazooka tube, although I thought a scrubbie wouldn't be needed.....the whole thing is covered with a good fine mesh.....
Yea, I thought that it would have been enough to, but during Thirsty's brewday, he had a scrubbie on the end of his . The hot break is almost like cellophane when your draining, the pot.
Yes I am using a weldless kit, should be here on friday, going to have the boys at work bang it out for me. is it ok if the bazooka tube touches the bottom of the kettle?
I don't think it would matter if the bazooka tube was in contact with the bottom, as long as it wasn't pressed in to it.....

OK I have a couple questions. What do you mean by weldless kit? Assuming you mean assemble without welding (duh?). But unless I'm wrong just wanted to clarify. Also as far as washer, are you talking rubber, plastic, or metal washer? One more, how much do the kits cost and where online can I find them?
thanks for the help
I usually just pour the hot wort from brew pot into carboy (cold water), but draining it into it would be much easier and no steam burns!

You can get a weldless ball valve from a few different places online. The whole kit is included, valve and washers and instructions. I believe Fermentap makes the more popular valves. You can choose from SS or Brass I think......They run around $30 or so depending on what style and where you get it from. Check out B3 as they usually have a good selection.....you'll also have to drill a 7/8" hole in your pot.

Right no welding means weldless. Drill a hole, then use fittings, washers and nuts to hold the whole assembly together to make a good seal against the walls of the kettle.
My set up uses all Stainless parts, except for the rubberized silicon washer that's high temperature grade.
I got all my parts at Morebeer.com
