What I like about Saniclean

I was out of Starsan and stopped by the LHBS. They were out of Starsan, but had Saniclean. Reluctantly, I bought a quart, not too happy that it was more costly to use (takes 60% more than Starsan) and that it took longer to sanitize with it.

I soon found that it also had its advantages. First, I like the fact that it doesn't foam nearly as much and  is clearer than Starsan, making it much easier to see small parts in the sanitizer bucket. I also found that it isn't slippery like Starsan, so the bung doesn't keep popping out of the carboy neck and the blowoff doesn't keep slipping off of the nipple of the carboy hood.

Also, I'm all set up to start kegging next week, so the cost difference will be gone. I can put 3 gallons in a corny and have the same liquid depth as 5 gallons in a bucket for sanitizing racking canes and the longer pieces. With all of this, 1 minute vs. 3 minutes contact time is not something I see as a problem.

Just thought I' throw this out for anyone who's interested.

Bob

Its also very nice for sanitizing RIMS and Herms systems where the foaming action of Starsan is undesireable.
