What type and size fridgeor freezer recommended for kegging?

Thirsty,
Thanks again for the links to other components.  I see the threaded barbed connections and it raised these questions

1. Do I need to use those on both the gas and the liquid lines?
2. If I need to do them on the gas lines, how can that be done when the manifold comes with barb fittings already?
3. Should I consider flare type fittings instead of barbed?

On the last question, I read on-line at the following link a refridgerator keg system where its author is dead set against barb connections.

You may need to go into his "complete write up" link further down the page.

OK, I am new at this uploading stuff and at the moment I am unable to figure out how to put a jpeg into this posting.  I will do some more research to try and figure it out.

The order of your connections would be regulator out to distribution manifold, manifold to keg. The hose between your manifold and keg would be connected however at the manifold, but have a barbed flare w/ threads and a nut to hold it on. you can then just spin off your QD to hook up anything else.

This is my diagram of how I plan to set up the system.  As I count it, there are nearly 50 connections.  I want to add shut offs before each manifold so that I can keep pressure if I need to use the CO2 tank for something else.  Also, I think it will help diagnosing a leak if I can shut off half of the system.

OK, here is my first attempt to upload a picture.  I hope it is clear.

I am not just learning how to homebrew, this place is dragging my @$$ into the 21st century.

Thanks webby.

Your schematic looks mostly right, not sure about your high pressure, low pressure though.

A regulator comes w/ 2 guages, the high pressure tells you the actual tank pressure, the low pressure tells you the outgouing pressure after it has been reduced by the regulator.

If you want a dual regulator it would have 3 guages, 1 high pressure and 2 low pressure, then you can feed the two manifolds.

The other thing is the shutoffs you may want to put them before the QD's, most regulators will come w/ the shutoffs preinstalled on the regulator. I would recommend something like this http://www.northernbrewer.com/pics/full … as-reg.jpg

Good luck!

I believe my regulator also has shut-offs.  but I put the shut offs after the QD's so that I could maintain pressure in the manifolds if I need to  get some access to the CO2 for some other reason.  I also thought that it would put less air into the system and the kegs if I could shut this off when I change tanks.  I also think it might be pretty tight getting a wrench into the freezer to disconnect the regulator.  This way, I can turn off all the valves, and pull out the tank and change the regulator outside of the freezer.  Maybe it is overkill.

When you shut the tank off and disconnect the reg from it, there is a check valve in there that will not allow the system's pressure to pour out. Do what you want, it just sounds overkill and stuff you can always add later if you see it necessary.

You may also want to think about getting a 20# tank. The initial investment isn't much more, and the cost to exchange them is just a few bucks more than a 5# and will last much longer. Running 8 lines it might be a good consideration. If room is an issue you could always store the tank outside the freezer (would suggest anyhow)

I love spending other people's $$. Just built a kegerator for my buddy and my neighbor is next up in line.

I got almost everything now.

I bought a new deep chest freezer.  I kept trying classifieds and craigslist, but everytime I enquired, the units were already sold, or too small.  I was only going to get 15 cubic feet, but I found a 23 cubic feet for $529.  It has blown my project budget, but oh well.  The wife is OK with it, and she has this thing for new stuff anyways.

I bought two 10 lb CO2 tanks.

I have two 3-way distributor.  The company I ordered them from screwed up big time.  I got a dual regulator shipped with the wrong size barbs, and I had ordered the 4-way distributors.  I am still very happy with the company because after I called and explained the situation they worked with me....I will explain...

I have 8 taps so I ordered enough distributor ports for all the taps.  Since I now have a bigger freezer than planned, I realize I can now slowly carbonate kegs that are not connected to taps.  So, I need more gas lines.

So, I get to keep the two  3 way distributors, and they are sending me a 4 way distributor.

I have 8 liquid and 10 gas ball type fittings on order for the soda kegs.

I only have 7 soda kegs at the moment, but I will buy more in the near future.

Now, I have to change the collar design.  I was going to go with that but my wife insists that the taps be up on top and in back to make them less of a tempation for our 4 year old boy.

So now, I will have to drill holes in the lid and make a wooden box type tower with insulation on top for the taps.

If anybody has any recommendations on how to pull this off, please let me know.

Anyways, good luck, and good brewing.

8 taps are now on-line.  It took 3 months longer than planned because my wife wanted the taps to come out of the top instead of just the side.  I still have to wait for the beer to carbonate.   I will see if I can hurry up the situation by going to the local brew pub and buying a keg of beer.

All this means nothing w/o pics! Show it off! Need a dose of beer pron.

PICS!!!!!!

Although seeing the pics of my old fridge made me cry a bit.
I am still without beer fridge and 9 empty kegs.
