Which Mityvac?, There are many
Hey ,
I keep reading about the MityVac and how well it works, when I googled it I found many different types and models. What do I need? Could someone give me a model number?
Thanks
Hi lukas,
I believe most people would say the best Mity-Vac is the model #4000 which is a metal pump (therefore it will not break with a lot of pumping). I bout a model# 6820 on eBay for about $30 total. It's a plastic one, but I don't foresee any problems with breaking.
I found the Equus #3660 vacuum pump on e-bay. It is similar to the plastic mityvac but more sturdy. I have been giving it vigorous use with no problems. With 2" of head space in the carboy, it is no problem to get 23" of vacuum.
Enjoy!!!
lukas,
I got something a little bigger than THE mityvac. It's here. I purchased this after the plastic mityvac I had broke. I was able trade it in, and I have been happy with the upgrade so far. Since it has a big reservoir (sp) I do not take as long to degas. I just get the wine bubbling and let it sit for about 10 minutes. I do this two or three times and the wine is degassed. With the hand-held mityvac, I used to have to pump for a few minutes, then let it sit for a few minutes and repeat for a day or two.
