Yards of Ale

When I started going to pubs, there were "yards" of ale which were long glasses with bulbous bottoms, intended to be chugged.

This is more of a school's pub night kind of thing, but I was wondering if anyone here has a yard and if it's still used?

in cali. you can go to the yardhouse they use these things

We have a couple from Cancun but they are plastic so I don't use them. Plus I don't chug homebrew anyway.

I was at bed bath and beyond with my wife and noticed they had yard glasses for sale there

Kwak is served traditionally in a mini- yard held up by a wooden "rack", that can be used as a handle or removd and drank. I saw a holiday gift pack recently at the packy that has a bottle and this yard. They want $26 though so I passed, little expensive just fot the cool factor. A local beer bar servs kwak though and serves it in these. http://www.bestbelgianspecialbeers.be/main_eng.html

I believe that's a Quarter Yard with the Kwak.  I've seen several Yard, Half-Yard, and Quarter Yard glasses with racks/holders on ebay.

Wow Thirsty, this would be some beer to make, I was looking at recipes online.  1.123 og damn, this beer fits right in as somthing to scratch that belgian itch you have.  Any plans on making this one?  Don't tell me you havn't thought of making it?  This is the first time I've ever heard of this beer, and it's peaked my intrest.

I am actually planning on making the DeuS clone. The riddling and disgorgement has peaked the curiosity, I have been doing a little research and will probabbly do it, I have ingredients stacking up 3 brews deep, tight now, my partner took a week off having some teeth pulled, so we have to catch back up, I really like the bosteel's beers however, drink them if you get the chance.

Wild's post is better read with a south boston accent.
If you are unfamiliar go rent Good Will Hunting or simply replace all the "r"s with "ah"s.  And throw in a couple "wicked"s in there for good measure.

I believe that's a Quahtah Yahd with the Kwak.  My buddies Dooley and Fitzy got wicked cocked one night with yahds, half-yahds and Quahtah Yahd glasses of that hopscotch DIPA out at Tatah and Lips Beah Hole Pub.

Too bad you don't know any substitute brewers to help fill in! Sheesh.

Good point Mike! Any and all are welcome from now until I return to work....Uh not sure when that will be, but regardless, Assistant brewers, co-brewers, brewmasters... all are welcome to come and brew. Production begins 9am EST in West Springfield MA, be there if you dare! buwahaha!

Seriously, if anyone is looking to hang and brew, more the merrier!
